Lowering Home Energy Bills & Fighting the Climate Crisis

September 25, 2019

Climate change is real. It’s happening now, and it’s having an impact on our daily lives.

Droughts are wiping out crops, heat waves are claiming lives, and floods and wildfires are threatening communities across the country. It’s making life more expensive. And you need support.

Just take your home, for example. You’ve worked hard to have a place to call your own where you can set down roots, raise a family, and retire. But the work on a house is never really done.

Maybe you’ve noticed the windows are drafty or your old furnace isn’t working as well as it used to. But it’s expensive to upgrade. And as much as you’d like to invest in a retrofit, you don’t have the cash to do it. And on top of that, with a changing climate, the costs of adapting are going up too.

We’ll be here to help.

We’ll introduce a new, interest-free loan of up to $40,000 for homeowners and landlords who want to make their homes more energy efficient. Not only will this lower your energy bills in the long term, it will help keep our environment healthy.

And if you’re looking to buy a net-zero emissions home, we’re creating a new Net-Zero Homes Grant to make environmentally-responsible living more affordable too.

At the same time, that’s only one part of the story. We know more and more communities are in danger of being affected by the ever-increasing number of climate-related emergencies.

When your life is upended by climate-related emergencies, we’re going to make sure you have the support you need. A new national flood insurance program will help keep you protected. And, if you can’t work because you need to sandbag your home or your community is evacuated, a new EI Disaster Assistance benefit will have you covered.

The days of denying climate change are over. The Liberal team will take action now, and be there for you when you need it.
