A Renewed Commitment to Equality

We will renew our commitment to reaching full gender equality.

The federal government made a commitment to considering the gender impacts of its decisions more than two decades ago, dating back to the 1995 World Conference on Women – Conservative governments failed to live up to that promise.

Because public policies affect women and men in different ways, we made gender budgeting and Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA+) a permanent part of the federal budget-making process. We will continue to move forward with their use, and in recognition of the Conference’s 25th anniversary next year will:

  • renew our commitment to a Federal Plan for Gender Equality, including a coordinated strategy built on the Gender Results Framework and other international agreements; and
  • ensure that rigorous GBA+ continue to be performed on all policy proposals.
